An Apartment State Of Mind
April 10, 2024
At Fairfield, we know that being a multifamily housing provider is much more than offering quality apartment living. It's about being a thoughtful member of the local community. That's why we're proud to work with local artists to add something special to our communities. To celebrate the upcoming World Art Day on April 15, check out some of the local artists that have contributed art to our communities nationwide!
This 10-foot by 20-foot public artwork on the west side of building 600 at The Moxley that represents the economic rebirth and constant evolution of the area is the result of a generous grant awarded to Spotlight on the Arts in partnership with the Fairfax City Economic Development Authority (EDA) by the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC).
Local Austin artist Avery Orendorf, owner and muralist at Avery O Design, hand-paintes and hand-draws graphics that utilize clean line work, strong color combinations and repetitive patterns to create intricate but simple art pieces with a deep story potential. Avery painted a 1,400-square-foot mural at the entrance of Fifteen15 South Lamar Apartments that encapsulates the weird, fresh spirit of the city of Austin.
Amie J. Jacobsen is a designer, sculptor, and public artist in the Kansas City area who has produced across mediums, including painting, illustration, 3D design, and metal-working. She holds a BA in Studio Art from Western State Colorado and an MFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
At 22 feet tall, the Flame of Inspiration is made of polished stainless steel and thick, colored glass. The towering size and shape represent the spark that begins all great ideas, and the piece was specifically designed to be a place people can sit and contemplate in the presence of something beautiful.
Gordon Huether has been creating public commissions since 1989. Since, his projects have ranged from airports and transportation centers to hotels, universities, and museums. Much of his work is inspired by the effects that nature has on man-made materials and pays homage to the awe-inspiring forces of nature.
Originally displayed in an exhibition at Bottlerock Napa, this large-scale installation is made of aluminum and glass. The sculpture is prominently situated within a spiral wall in a vehicular roundabout.
Natalie Lanese has most recently been exhibited at the Akron Art Museum, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and the Toledo Museum of Art. Her public work commissions and murals can be seen across the Midwest and in galleries in New York, Massachusetts, and Maine. Lanese is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Siena Heights University in Michigan, and has an MFA from Pratt Institute and a BFA from Xavier University.
