An Apartment State Of Mind

Right at home in front of the leasing office at Radiate Apartments in Redmond, WA, “Curious?” is a powder-coated aluminum sculpture of a life-size grizzly bear prying up the sidewalk to see what lies beneath. It represents the curiosity in us all, according to artist Matt Babcock, and is an encouragement to investigate your surroundings.
But it’s more than just a piece of art. “Curious?” invites newcomers and longtime residents alike to meet their neighbors, engage with their community, and experience the beauty of the city of Redmond. It’s a message that is core to Radiate’s values as a community.
Radiate is a new community of luxury studio, 1, and 2 bedroom apartments in Redmond, WA designed to pique your interest — just like “Curious?” With smart design and a convenient location on Redmond’s beautiful Bear Creek Trail, Radiate is an exceptional place to call home. Inside, each floor plan is light, bright, and spacious with designer touches at every turn.
But a truly modern and engaging living experience extends beyond your front door. That’s why Radiate’s pet-friendly community offers expansive social spaces, such as a large co-working area, bike room, game room, and state-of-the-art fitness center.
“Curious?” is meant to connect Radiate Apartments to the Bear Creek Trail in an obvious yet playful manner. Four aerial “brushstrokes” made of folded metal plates combine to represent the form, movement, and emotional state of the bear.
Babcock constructed the bear out of heavy gauge aluminum. It was then powder coated in the his studio and transported to the site for installation. As such, it is extremely durable and will weather the elements with ease. Crafted with great care and attention to detail, the impressive metalwork took more than 200 hours to create and install.
Matt Babcock is a professional welder, metal fabricator, and architect. Throughout his training and career, he studied art history, studio art, urban design, and engineering.
