An Apartment State Of Mind
March 28, 2020
As we all continue to navigate through COVID-19 and practice social distancing, simple maintenance requests are not being performed at this time for the safety of you, our resident, and our associates.
Due to this temporary protocol, below are some tips that may assist you should something in your apartment home need attention.
TOILETS
It is important to remember that your toilet is not a trash can. The two biggest reasons for clogged toilets are “flushable wipes and grease.” Unlike toilet paper that breaks down when it gets wet, the “flushable” wipes do not. These wet wipes will stay intact and create a back-up.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Under the disposal is a red reset button that may get it working again. There are several items you should not put down the garbage disposal including:
SMOKE DETECTORS
When cooking, smoke may build up in unit then cause the smoke detector to continuously beep – all that needs to be done is to fan the smoke away from the smoke detector. DO NOT REMOVE THE SMOKE DETECTOR. If a smoke detector is beeping continuously, maintenance will provide a battery for resident to replace.
REFRIGERATORS
Overfilling the refrigerator or freezer can block air vents, restrict the flow of cold air, and overtax your refrigerator’s condenser, which could lead to a burn out. Please do not overload your refrigerator or freezer.
TRIPPED BREAKER
Most breaker boxes are located behind one of the bedroom doors. A tripped breaker will be set in the middle position. To reset a breaker, completely move the breaker switch Left or Right depending on location on house panel; until a click sound is heard. If click is not heard, breaker has not been properly re-set.
OUTLET NOT WORKING
WATER LEAK
Water shuts off are located at every fixture. There are various types of angle stops/shut off valves.
Additionally, with so many of you now home, the CDC is offering suggestions on cleaning/ sanitizing your home.
We thank you for your continued vigilance and maintenance of our homes.
