The DC Metro Virginia area is characterized by its important and proud military history. Hosting memorials of wars past and museums highlighting key war locations, attractions such as Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery stand proudly in the hearts of Virginians. As an historic location, the Virginia-DC connection has many unique and culturally important buildings from times gone by preserving a true sense of patriotism. 

Military importance remains in the Virginia area near DC today as it is the home of The Pentagon, the US Ministry of Defense, and the CIA. Not only is the area ripe with job opportunities - government and civilian - there are  incredible schools and educational institutions catering from kindergarten to university.

The Arlington area is right across the Potomac River from Washington DC and has more of an urban feel than its neighboring Virginia cities. Education thrives in the area with Arlington's public school district being recognized for high achievement, and when combined with an abundance of pet-friendly parks, open spaces, and cultural museums, Arlington has become a top consideration for family life.

In Alexandria, the charm of America's history is visible throughout the architecture. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the juxtaposition of Old Town Alexandria's historic look and feel with its modern amenities, restaurants and retailers. 

If commuting across the border to Washington DC is more of a necessity than a leisure, the cities of Fairfax, Ashburn or Woodbridge may be better options to call home. Washington DC is only a handful of miles away from these towns and public transport links make the commute easily accessible. These cities are also a destination of their own, as urban development continues to add major shopping, dining, and entertainment hubs.
